How to set up the flute
There are 3 parts of the flute: the head joint, middle joint (body) and the foot joint. The head joint is where you blow into the flute, the middle joint is where the majority of your fingers go and the foot joint is the shortest part of the joints.
First take the head joint and put the circular open end into the middle joint gently. You don't want to damage any of the keys or pads. Never force them together, if they are sticking you can simply take a rag and clean the ends of each joint. The embouchure hole should be lined up with the keys on the middle joint.
Next you will want to put the foot joint and middle joint together, just like before, you will want to be careful. The first key on the foot joint (pinky key) should line up to the keys on the body.
